Stan is a Principal and Attorney at Law at Miller Canfield where he has been designated as a Grand Rapids Lawyer of the Year by Best Lawyers in America in 2014, 2015, and again in 2019. Recently Stan won the Michael S. Barnes award as a recognition for his long history of providing pro bono services to his community. He has more than twenty years of small and medium sized business experience, participating in managing the strategy and operations of Miller Canfield and previously at Clary, Nantz, & Wood where he served as the Managing Shareholder.

Stan has been active in building a thriving Walker community for many years, including serving as: Chairperson of the Walker Historical Commission, Chair of the Walker Citizen’s Advisory Committee, Walker Police and Fire Memorial Foundation, President of the Edison House Foundation, and named 2008’s "Person of the Year” by Walker's Mayor VerHuelen and City Commission.

Stan was first elected to the Board of Commissioners in 2014. As a commissioner he has served on the board’s Executive Committee as Vice Chair, chair of the Legislative and Human Resources Committee, chair of the Mental Health Authority (Network 180), chair of the Lakeshore Regional Entity (PIHP), SUD Oversight Policy Board, Michigan Work’s Board, Kent Community Action Governing Board, Senior Millage Allocation Committee, chair of the Dedicated Millage Committee, and chair of the Crisis Center Task Force.

Prior to being elected as a commissioner, Stan served as the president of the boards of Integrity Education Services, Walker Advisory Committee, Walker Police and Fire Memorial Committee, Jubliee Jobs, Home Repair Services, Wedgewood Christian Services, and others. He had also served on the board of Grandville Christian School, and a number of church and professional committees and boards. Stan is married to former Walker City Commissioner, Cyndy Stek, and has six children and nine grandchildren. Stan and Cyndy are members of Mars Hill Bible Church.
